Suryakant Tripathi was a famous Hindi poet from the Kavi Sammelan days. He was known as Nirala. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1955 for his contributions to Hindi literature. A new research institute has been named after him as Suryakant Tripathi Nirala Rashtriya Samiti. He was born on 22nd July, 1888 and died on 5th September, 1968.

Early Life of Suryakant Tripathi

Suryakant Tripathi was born in Uttar Pradesh, India in the year  21 February 1896, Midnapore. He belonged to a humble family of farmers. He had to discontinue his schooling in order to support his family. At a very young age, he started working as a farm labourer. Sensing his keen interest in poetry, his uncle encouraged him to develop his skills in the same. Suryakant Tripathi started writing poems at the age of 15 and won several poetry competitions at the district and state level. In the year 2000, he won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his magnum opus anthology of poems, ‘Agast’.
