Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, India in 16 August 1904, Prayagraj. She was the first Indian woman to summit Mount Everest, an achievement she accomplished at the young age of 23. Chauhan began her mountaineering career in 1937, when she climbed the 5,500-meter-high Trisul. The next year, she climbed Mount Kamet, the second-highest peak in the Garhwal Himalayas. In May 1950, Chauhan reached the summit of Mount Everest, becoming the first Indian woman to do so.

Born in a small village in Uttar Pradesh, Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was groomed to be a great poet from a very young age. In 1984 she went to Mount Everest as a part of Women’s expedition which achieved success by becoming first Indian women team who reached at base camp successfully after an unsuccessful attempt earlier.
